May is here and it is bringing all the good stuff with it! Warmer weather, blooming flowers, and a calendar absolutely packed with things to do with your kids in and around Fond du Lac. Whether your little one loves getting messy with art, exploring the outdoors, building with LEGO, or dancing it out at a themed party, this month has something for every kid and every family. Here is your complete guide to family fun in May!

Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac

The Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac is one of our favorite spots for families with little ones, and May is an especially exciting month with Screen Free Week and some great recurring programs on the calendar!

Music, Museum and Me (Recurring)

When: Every Friday at 10:15 AM

Ages: 8 months to 5 years

This high-energy, joyful class is a weekly staple at the museum! Kids and their caregivers learn songs, play instruments, and move to music together in a fun and interactive setting. One of the best ways to introduce your little one to the magic of music!

Art Explorers (Recurring)

When: Every Friday at 11:00 AM

Cost: FREE for Members | Included with Admission

There is an artist in every child! Art Explorers gives kids the chance to explore different tools and techniques to create something beautiful to display at the museum or bring home. A wonderful Friday morning activity for creative little ones.

Screen Free Week

When: May 5 through May 9 | 9:00 AM

Cost: FREE for Members | Half off Admission May 5 through 9

Sponsored by SSM Health, Screen Free Week is such a fantastic event for families! Each day is packed with extra activities and free giveaways. Field Trips at the Museum

May The museum will be welcoming school and group field trips throughout the month of May. If you are planning a visit, just know there may be additional young guests in the building enjoying their field trip experience alongside you!

Young at Heart and a Cart

When: Friday, May 15 | 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Young at Heart is the Children’s Museum’s annual fundraiser, and it is such an important one! This event ensures that all children have access to the museum’s positive play experiences. With the support of donors, sponsors, and participants, all families can benefit from quality programming, exhibits, and events regardless of their ability to pay. A wonderful cause worth supporting!

Fond du Lac Public Library

The Fond du Lac Public Library is bringing the energy in May with an incredible lineup of events for kids and families. This month, the library is also launching Flight Path, a brand new science initiative that runs all month long!

Flight Path (All Month)

When: May 1 through May 31

Flight Path is landing in Fond du Lac and it is going to be amazing! This community-wide initiative brings science, conservation, and curiosity together with fun activities and events all month long. Flight Path is the first campaign in the new Spark of Science at My Library initiative, a partnership between the STAR Library Education Network and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios with the goal of sparking curiosity about science and creating a deeper understanding of how science can improve human health and the health of our planet. Keep an eye on the library’s calendar for all the related events throughout the month!

Playtime at the Library (Recurring)

When: Every Monday at 9:30 AM through 11:00 AM

While storytimes take a break this month, the library is hosting a fun drop-in Playtime series every Monday! Each week, local experts in child development will be on hand to answer your questions, and refreshments will be available for both kids and grown-ups. You can even enter a raffle drawing for a chance to win a gas or grocery gift card. Here is the weekly lineup:

Build, create, and show off your skills! All creations will be displayed in the library and entered into a prize drawing for a special LEGO set. A perfect Tuesday afternoon activity for your little builder!

Adaptive Storytime

When: Wednesday, May 6 | 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM

The library’s sensory-friendly Adaptive Storytime is back for its monthly session! This inclusive program features stories, inclusive activities, and a supportive environment for caregivers and children of all ages and abilities. Free play follows for social interaction and engagement. Such a wonderful and welcoming program for every family.

Mini-Makers’ Market

When: Saturday, May 9 | 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Sunday, May 10 | 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM

The Mini-Makers’ Market is back and it is a two-day event this month! Young entrepreneurs will be selling their homemade goods and practicing real business skills. If your child wants to participate as a maker, registration forms are available at the Children’s Desk or can be printed at home. Forms must be returned by Friday, May 1. A great event for the whole community to come out and support our young makers!

Rook Club

When: Tuesday, May 12 | 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Chess players of all ages and skill levels are welcome at Rook Club! The library will have resources on learning chess, and experienced players are encouraged to help beginners learn the game. Bring your own set or borrow one of theirs. Rook Club meets the second Tuesday of every month.

Crafty Kids: Button Snails

When: Wednesday, May 13 | 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Ages: 4 and up

Slow down and get crafty this May! Kids will create an adorable button snail in this monthly craft program that is always a hit with the elementary-age crowd. A fun and easy Wednesday afternoon outing!

Paint-Along with Miss Katie

When: Friday, May 15 | 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Ages: 5 to 12 years

Note: Registration required, opens May 1 at 9 AM.

Wear old clothes! Miss Katie is back to guide kids through creating their very own painted masterpiece! Space is limited so register early. Caregivers must stay with children under age 8.

Maker Monday: Sharpie Tie-Dye

When: Monday, May 18 | 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Ages: 7 and up

Need some color in your life? This Maker Monday, kids will create a colorful tie-dye string bag using Sharpies! A super fun and wearable craft project perfect for the warmer weather ahead.

Shrek Dance Party

When: Wednesday, May 20 | 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Ages: Toddlers through Preschool

Get your boots on because it is time to celebrate Shrek’s 25th anniversary with a full-on Shrek-themed dance party! Kids will dance in a glow-in-the-dark swamp, make fairytale-themed crafts, and enjoy refreshments. This one is going to be SO much fun for your little fairytale fans!

TimberNook is one of our absolute favorite programs for getting kids outside and into the natural world. May has two great offerings for different age groups!

Tiny Ones Spring Session (Continuing)

When: Tuesdays, April 21 through May 12 | 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Ages: 1 to 6 years with caregivers

If you signed up for the Tiny Ones Spring Session, the fun continues into May! Kids and caregivers will explore the stories of Goldilocks and the Dinosaurs, Hansel and Gretel, and Caps for Sale through outdoor creative play. This is not a drop-off program, so come ready to explore alongside your little one!

Wild Ones: Roxaboxen

When: Saturday, May 9 | 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

This month’s Wild Ones session is inspired by the beloved book Roxaboxen by Alice McLerran, a treasured story about the magic of a child’s imagination. Kids will have the opportunity to create their own Roxaboxen in the woods, building a world limited only by their creativity! This is a drop-off program with drop-off from 8:55 to 9:05 AM and pickup from 1:55 to 2:05 PM. Pack a backpack with a change of clothes, water bottle, snack, and lunch, and expect your child to come home wonderfully dirty!

Treffert Studios continues to be a shining example of inclusive, thoughtful programming for neurodivergent individuals and families in our community. May is full of amazing events!

DIY Sensory Class Spring 2026 (Recurring)

When: Every other Monday, May 4 through June 6 | 4:30 PM to 5:15 PM

Parents, caregivers, and their children explore new sensory experiences together in this hands-on class. Each session focuses on different sensory principles, ways of integrating sensory awareness, and participants take home a permanent sensory project every week. Such a meaningful program for families!

Play, Build, Create!

When: Tuesday, May 5 | 4:15 PM to 5:30 PM

Limit: 10 participants

A pop-up play experience with rotating themes! Explore dramatic play in the theatre with costumes and props, build with LEGO, blocks, and dominoes, or get creative in the art room. This structured program supports social interaction, fine and gross motor skills, and problem-solving in a fun, supportive environment.

Normal Isn’t Real Film Screening

When: Wednesday, May 6 | 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Cost: FREE

Treffert Studios is partnering with Moraine Park Technical College to present a FREE screening of “Normal Isn’t Real: Succeeding with Learning Disabilities and ADHD.” This powerful documentary features four successful young adults sharing their candid stories of coming to terms with learning disabilities and ADHD, showcasing their talents, their challenges, and the strategies they use to thrive. A must-see for families, educators, and community members!

Special Interest Community Group

When: Thursdays, May 7 and May 17 | 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

This ongoing group helps individuals develop areas of talent and special interest in a collaborative setting. Participants explore their passions and work together with support from clinicians and staff to create a group project. A wonderful community-building program!

Level Up! Friday Night Program

When: Friday, May 8 | 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Ages: 8 and up

Limit: 20 participants

The ultimate Friday night for kids is back! Gaming competitions, arts and crafts, music, LEGO, VR, and kitchen skills all in a safe and supportive environment. Designed for youth on the autism spectrum but open to all. A seriously fun night out for your older kids!

Worth every minute of the drive to Sheboygan, Above and Beyond Children’s Museum has an absolutely stunning lineup in May with art, science, music, storytelling, and cultural events that will delight kids of all ages!

Felt in Bloom Art Studio

Celebrate the beauty of spring by making a one-of-a-kind felt creation! Using wet felting techniques, kids will craft a handmade fiber piece with swirling colors and all the spring vibes. A truly unique and beautiful art experience!

Make Music With Me (Continuing)

Buzz and Blooms Science Lab

Step into the Buzz and Blooms Lab where young scientists explore pollinators, farms, and the magic of nature! Kids will experiment with a flower lab, create paper blooms, and discover how they change color while investigating cause and effect in playful hands-on ways. Science, creativity, and nature all in one session!

Bilingual Storytime with Pigeons

When: Saturday, May 16 | Sessions at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 12:00 PM

As part of the Community Culture Exchange featuring Mexican artist Gabriela Marván, this special bilingual storytime reads tales of feathery friends in both English and Spanish with guest storytellers. After the story, kids get to visit with a real pigeon! A truly unique cultural and literary experience for the whole family.

Cardboard Creations

Nature Makers invites kids to create leafy trees, animal friends, and imaginative nature-inspired designs using cardboard, shapes, and open-ended materials. A wonderful hands-on building and art experience that celebrates creativity and the natural world!

Sprout and Play Toddler Time is a playful, hands-on spring adventure celebrating flowers, farms, and the lively world of the season! Pure toddler joy!

Petals and Pollinators Art Studio

When: Thursday, May 29 | 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Step into the Petals and Pollinators Studio where young artists craft colorful blooms, buzzing bumblebees, and garden friends! Kids can mix textures, layer colors, and shape their ideas in open-ended ways. There is no right way to create here, just playful exploration and joyful discovery to close out the month beautifully!

Oshkosh Comic and Toy Show Presented by Quad Con

When: Saturday, May 23 | 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Location: Oshkosh Arena, 1212 S Main St, Oshkosh, WI

This one is for the whole family, kids and grown-ups alike! Over 90 vendor spots featuring artists, authors, posters, comics, video games, Pokemon, Star Wars, Transformers, anime, action figures, Funko Pops, and tons of comic books. There will also be a cosplay contest with details announced the week of the show. A seriously fun day out for your pop culture loving family!
