The Peoples’ Recorder Listening Party
Thursday, July 16, 2026
1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
The Federal Writers’ Project was a New Deal Program that gave out of work writers, journalists, and scholars the opportunity to apply their skill to document the cultures and people of the United States. In many states interviews were recorded representing an early venture into recorded oral history. In Wisconsin, a local initiative of the Writers’ Project known as the Oneida Language Project engaged young Oneida community members in documenting the stories of their elders and the language, the work of other contributor including Aldo Leopold, introduced Wisconsin to America as a state connected with and concerned for its environment.
