When I started spray tanning, I truly didn’t think that body inclusivity would be SO impactful. Boy was I wrong. Spray tanning to me was supposed to be just a side gig, for extra income. It quickly grew to my main source of income and my main service provided here at PS, Beauty Lounge. As I grew in the community, concern grew about who could get tans. People felt it could only be women. Well, I’m here to tell you anyone can. Big, small, women of color, fair skinned, men, women, etc. You name it. I was receiving multiple messages and emails from potential clients asking if they could get a tan because they had extra skin, or because they had darker skin to begin with.
With that, I KNEW I needed to do something impactful. I reached out to one of my photographers, gathered some models and I threw together a photo shoot. I sprayed them all with different solutions, different depths, and different rinse times. Giving them all an even color that suited their skin type best. These women had all just met and were so nervous the day of the shoot but WOW, they got into this space and worked it. They all quickly started taking photos of each other, making tik toks even.
As soon as behind the scenes photos were posed, they turned heads FAST. Some of the finished photos have been seen by the public now for about a week and the feedback that not only I, but the models have received, have been so rewarding and validating. It has gone as far as women booking tans, out of state, because they felt so empowered by these images.
If there is anything that anyone should take away from this, or my business, it’s that spray tanning is for anyone. I don’t care if you come in with extra skin, big boobs or small boobs, stretch marks or birth marks. I am here to give you an are tan and give you that instant confidence boost we all deserve.
