Things to Do With Kids in Fond du Lac This March (That Won’t Drive You Crazy)

Spring break is coming. The kids are restless. The weather can’t make up its mind. And you’ve already heard “I’m bored” approximately four hundred times this month.

We hear you. And we’ve got you covered. Here’s your local guide to keeping the kids entertained in Fond du Lac this March – no major travel required.

Things to Do with Kids Indoors – Fond du Lac’s Favorites

The Fond du Lac Public Library is truly one of this community’s hidden gems. Between story times, craft programs, and just the sheer number of books and activities available, it is a free resource worth way more than we give it credit for. Check their events calendar because spring programming usually kicks off right around now.

We’ve also been big fans of Fond du Lac Children’s Museum and know a ton of locals who swear by Wonder Cafe.

Get Moving

If your kids have been cooped up all winter, they need to run. Fond du Lac’s recreation programs have spring sports signups happening right now, and getting kids into soccer, baseball, or gymnastics gives them something to look forward to every week.

On warmer days, Lakeside Park, Buttermilk Creek, and the trails at Hobbs Woods offer room to roam. Mud boots are encouraged. After all, mud is basically a rite of passage in a Wisconsin spring, and embracing it makes everyone happier.

Creative Stuff at Home (That’s Actually Fun)

Spring is a great season for backyard science experiments and nature journaling. Challenge kids to find ten signs of spring in your yard or neighborhood. You’d be surprised how many they discover when they’re actually looking.

Planting seeds indoors is another great activity this time of year. A few little pots, some potting soil, and some easy-to-grow herbs or flowers give kids something to check on every day. It’s almost like a low-maintenance pet. (Check out Lubbert’s Farm and Greenhouse or Hounsell’s Greenhouse when they open for the season – both are great local spots to grab starter plants.)

Support Local While You’re At It

When you do head out, think about stopping at a local bakery, picking up lunch from a Fond du Lac restaurant, or grabbing supplies from a locally owned shop. The businesses that make up our community appreciate every single visit, and it sets a great example for your kids about taking care of the place you live.

You’ve got this, parents. Spring is right around the corner.
