Spring in Fond du Lac is genuinely one of the best times to be here. The lake wakes up, the parks fill in, the local businesses are buzzing, and there’s that collective exhale the whole community lets out after winter finally releases its grip.
We put together a spring bucket list that’s very specifically Fond du Lac County. No tourist traps, no driving two hours, just the good stuff right here at home.
The Fondy Famous Spring Bucket List
1. Walk the full length of Lakeside Park when the trees start budding. It looks completely different in every season, and spring might be the most underrated version.
2. Visit the Fond du Lac Farmer’s Market as soon as it opens for the season. Getting there early means the best selection, plenty of time to actually talk to vendors, and first dibs on sourdough from E&B Sourdough.
3. Take the kids to Hobbs Woods and let them explore. Bring the mud boots. Seriously.
4. Pick up plants for your garden from Hounsell’s Greenhouse north of Fond du Lac or Lubbert’s Farm out on Kelly Road. Both are local, both are excellent, and there’s something genuinely satisfying about watching your own plants grow from a local start.
5. Go strawberry picking at Mayberry Farms in Mayville. Seriously though, make sure you get there early in the morning! They’re a popular spot and get picked out quickly, but 1000% worth the effort.
6. Do a sunrise or sunset at the lakefront. Lake Winnebago in early spring is stunning and most of us forget to stop and appreciate it.
7. Put in your orders for pasture raised meat with May Hill Farm so you can enjoy local, sustainably raised beef, pork, chicken, and eggs year round.
8. Catch an outdoor community event or local youth sports game. Spring seasons are starting up, and there’s something grounding about watching kids play in your own community.
9. Take a drive through the county. Fond du Lac County is beautiful and a lot of us forget to explore beyond our usual routes. Spring makes everything look different. And when you’re done, stop by Gilles for some drive-in frozen custard
10. Follow and share Fondy Famous content featuring local businesses you love. The more our community supports each other, the stronger all of us get.
Make It Yours
This isn’t a perfect list for everyone, and that’s the point. Swap in the things that matter to your family, your schedule, and your neighborhood. The goal is just to actually do the things instead of letting spring slip by the way winters always seem to.
