Welcome to Fondy Famous with Kelly Northlee. We EmpowHer, originally known as the Women’s Empowerment Series, started in Fond du Lac County Department of Social Services with the aim of meeting women where they’re at and helping them find their voice. They offer classes on various topics such as mental health, domestic violence, self-care, trauma recognition, and overcoming obstacles. They also provide mirrored classes for children, creating a program that fosters sisterhood and community support.
Theresa Menting and Sarah Klein have expanded their programming beyond the Women’s Empowerment Series to meet the year-round needs of women in the community. They offer a monthly class called Sisterhood Support, where participants, volunteers, and mentors come together to learn and spend time with one another. They also provide enrichment classes based on the passions and interests of the women they serve. These classes give women the opportunity to share their skills and knowledge, such as yoga or oil mixing, while providing a supportive environment.
In addition to their classes, We EmpowHer has a volunteer work program that encourages women to give back to the community. By volunteering, women can earn points that can be spent on household goods, Christmas gifts for their children, and gift cards. This program embodies their mantra of being a “hand up, not a handout.”
One of the key aspects of We EmpowHer’s programming is that everything they offer is 100% free. They believe that education should be accessible to all, and they rely on the support of the community to provide resources and opportunities. This includes finding sponsors for events and classes, as well as securing donations for supplies and food.
To fund their programs and support the women they serve, We EmpowHer organizes a gala and a special event called Wisconsin Her Day. The gala serves as a major fundraiser, while Wisconsin Her Day is a conference featuring keynote speakers and breakout sessions. The event is free and aims to bring women from all over the state together to empower and support one another.
In the evening, Wisconsin Her Night takes place, where the Oshkosh Herd basketball team changes their name to “The Her” for one night. The event celebrates women and features alumni, graduates, mentors, and volunteers during halftime. It’s a special night to recognize the hard work and achievements of the women involved with We EmpowHer.
If you’re interested in getting involved with We EmpowHer, you can register for Wisconsin Her Day on their website. By purchasing tickets for the basketball game through their website, a portion of the proceeds will go back to supporting their programs. They also offer opportunities for community booths and sponsorships, but availability is limited, so it’s best to reach out to them soon.
We Empower Her is dedicated to empowering women and providing them with the resources and support they need to thrive. Through their Women’s Empowerment Series, year-round programming, and volunteer work program, they create a community of sisterhood and empowerment. They believe that education should be accessible to all, and they rely on the support of sponsors and the community to provide resources and opportunities.
We Empower Her is making a difference in the lives of women in their community, providing them with the support and resources they need to overcome obstacles and find their voice. Through their programs and events, they create a sense of sisterhood and empowerment, helping women realize their full potential. If you’re looking to support a cause that uplifts and empowers women, We Empower Her is a great organization to get involved with.
